GOALS

The following is a new set of goals establish by the membership in March 2005. These goal replace the five year goals established when the organization was established with the help of the Chesterfield Planning Department in 2001. Most of the original goals have been accomplished or have become no longer viable.

Current goals for the Chester Community Association:

GOAL: to Maintain a Viable Community Based Organization

• Raise membership numbers and participation
• Maintain annual festival
• Create and maintain a communication system with members
• Create and maintain a communications system with local community groups
• Establish, as needed, ad hoc fundraising committees for special community projects
• Advertise and create and award for a simple Chester Logo and motto

GOAL: to Establish and Maintain A Strong Of Business In The Community
• Work with businesses to make redevelopment easier
• Identify business needs of the community
• Develop stronger relationships with Chester Business Assoc. and Chamber of Commerce
• Work toward initiating a market study and developing a business strategy for the community

GOAL: to Maintain a Strong Sense of Aesthetics and Community Identity
• Install a Welcome sign on the east side of the community
• Initiate the completion of a landscape plan for the interchange at US 95 and Rte. 10
• Establish a committee to light steeples and copulas in the village core
• Continue recognition for improved properties (Orchid Award), advertise better
• Initiate a public relations campaign, contests, etc. to encourage property upkeep and maintenance
• Create a mural competition for the brick wall below the Christian Bookstore
• Create a committee for street tree trimming within the core

GOAL: to Maintain a Strong Vision in and for the Chester Area Plan
• Create a committee to work on insuring access to green space and greenways as provided and connected within and through the community
• Insure that the Chester plan lowers the residential density, especially where 4 to an acre is recommended
• Work with the school board to heighten their awareness of school impacts form density and future development in the Chester Community
• Insure that the design guidelines for the Route 10 Corridor are in keeping with the vision and are strengthened in the Chester Plan

GOAL: to Provide a Public Service and Governmental Contact for the Community
• Continue support and funding help for the Chesterfield Center for the Arts
• Find a use for the old Chester Library
• Facilitate the development of a community center
• Reduce the speed limit by 10 mph along Route 10 in the Village Core
• Maintain the Advisory Board that supports the Community Association
